What is an Insurance Appraisal?
When an Insurer and a Policyholder fail to reach a settlement agreement, either party can invoke an Appraisal under Statutory Condition #11. This is an efficient, cost-effective, and mandatory process available under the Insurance Act to settle quantum disputes between the parties. Upon completion of the Appraisal hearing, a binding award or decision is prepared.
It is imperative that your selected Appraiser understands the Appraisal process, insurance policies and is well prepared prior to the Appraisal hearing. The wrong choice of Appraiser can significantly impact the final outcome of your claim. Sobel Adjusting's team of fully licensed adjusters have a significant amount of Appraisal experience and have handled some of the largest Appraisals in Canada.
Sobel Adjusting recommends an insurance appraisal if:
- The Insurance company’s repair estimate is incomplete and will not cover the costs to bring your property back to its pre-loss condition
- The Insurance company’s offer to settle is insufficient
- Your claim has been dragging on for too long and you want resolution
- Your Proof of Loss has been rejected
- Negotiations with the Insurer have met a dead end
